School & Preschool Screenings

At May’s Speech Therapy, we believe early support leads to the best outcomes. School and preschool speech and language screenings are a simple, effective way to identify if a child may need a little extra help with their communication skills.

These brief screener are designed to flag any potential concerns in areas such as verbal language, understanding, or clarity of speech — often before they begin to significantly impact learning or confidence. Early identification means families can access support sooner, setting children up for success both in and out of the classroom.

How We Provide Screenings

Our friendly and qualified speech pathologists visit local schools and preschools across Ryde and surrounding suburbs to provide convenient, on-site screenings. We work closely with educators and families to make the process easy and supportive for everyone involved.

Each screening takes around 20–30 minutes and includes:

• A quick look at your child’s expressive language (how they use words and sentences to express themselves)
• A check of receptive language skills (how they understand and follow instructions)
• An observation of speech sounds (articulation)
• A brief look at fluency (how smoothly they speak), voice quality, and social communication

Our screeners are play-based and relaxed — we know that kids do their best when they feel comfortable and safe. After the screening, we provide a brief summary for parents and, if needed, recommend next steps for more in-depth assessment or support.
